Rd 1 & Rd 2 cancelled

Everyone has been reaching out and asking the status of the Dunmire’s 100 race, with the Christmas holiday it took a few days to get everyone together and check conditions then process through plans.

We were onsite at North Long Lake checking conditions, when we arrived at the boat ramp we not only could see what 2 inches of rain and multiple days above freezing for overnight temperatures had done to the ice conditions but Crow Wing County Sherriff were at the launch as well checking on multiple ice houses breaking through the ice.

At the boat launch we have about a 2 foot gap of open water then about 4-5 feet of unstable ice, once we got out on the lake surface itself we found that since checking conditions Thursday last week before the storm we had lost 3 inches of ice and in all the test locations 8 inches was the best we found.

Ottertail the snowmobile club had gone out to Pelican Bay and reported much of the same; 1.75 inches of rain and multiple days of warm temperatures had severely impacted conditions there. Last week where pits were located was 11 inches of ice and about 10 inches at the furthest point of the course route last year. This week they had to get across 3 feet of open water to find 7.5 to 8 inches of ice now where the pits are to be located and ice that appeared too unstable on the course route to go check.

With the extended forecast we unfortunately have to cancel Round 1 Dunmire’s 100 and Round 2 Ottertail 100 for the 2024 season.

Both locations are now set back to where we were at Thanksgiving for conditions and with the extended forecast will be a struggle to try and add them in later in the season.

We have met with both groups and unfortunately there is no dates that worked for the groups or the series to get these two rounds added at a later date.

With that information we are now discussing options with other currently scheduled races on making up these rounds as well as looking at other potential scenarios. When that is finalized we will share the plan with our racers, sponsors, and fans.

Additionally with the weather forecasted we have met with MN DNR and the Heartland 200 group as there is currently no snow on the ground in Park Rapids, snowmobile trails are closed, and no snow in the 14 day forecast so with that we have all agreed that this year the Heartland 200 will be moved to Fish Hook Lake.

Racers that have registered for Dunmire’s 100 we will be in contact with you, you will have the option to move your registration to the Heartland 200 event or be refunded in full.

We want to thank everyone involved with the Brainerd and Ottertail events, a lot of work has gone into the past year of planning and unfortunate that this weather had to have such a significant impact on conditions.
