Leech Lake 200 event update

Yesterday we were onsite in Walker, MN for the Trapper's Landing Lodge on Leech Lake Leech Lake 200.

As everyone knows we’ve been working with the sheriff dept on the course setup as they did not want a “plowed” race course but with the heavy wet snow they received this week we were able to come to a compromise for safety, if we did not plow the heavy wet snow from the storm this past week we would have had frozen hard drifts…

We were able to remove the heavy wet snow from the course but not plow down to ice, berms will be knocked down and we will then let the blowing snow drift in the race course.

Huge thanks to our sponsor Duraclutch for coming in “clutch” for us and lending us their Arrowhead Groomers SxS drag for this event. Lakes Area Powersports picked the drag up this afternoon and will spend the weekend panning the berms down and leaving just enough to help with definition of the course route.

The course will then be untouched until Monday and then they will start panning the drifted snow to smooth out and make a base for race course.

The heads up start section and first portion of the course will be plowed as well as the gas stop area for Pro Factory Sunday.

There is also a few non negotiables we need to pass along and cannot stress enough these are not negotiable, violate these items and punishment will be severe.

Permit Conditions:

  • The racecourse will be defined through limited plowing and use of dragging/grooming to create clear boundaries, improve depth perception, and maintain consistent surface conditions.

  • Course shall not be entirely plowed to the ice.

  • Permit does not include a test track and no testing on ice roads or pit areas.

  • Lake quiet hours are 7PM-7AM

The test track is a huge issue; we do not and never have built a test track; anyone who does plow a test track is legally liable and for this event may put the event at risk of being shut down. Any persons plowing a practice track may be subject to a fine as well as being removed by series officials from the event; if the person is a racer they will be disqualified from this event an potentially future events and will not receive a refund of their entry fees.

Anyone caught “testing” on the resort plowed ice roads will receive a verbal warning for first offense and be turned into Todd, a second offense will result in removal from the event, disqualification from the event, no refund of entry fees and potentially disciplinary action for future events.

Please understand after last year the sheriff’s dept had concerns and these are the main items that were not negotiable if we wanted a permit for this year’s event.

We ask for your help policing the people around you, if you see them doing something that will put the event at risk of shutdown ask them to stop; if they do not then contact Safety Director Haley Myers or Race Director Todd Myers so they can address the situation asap.

We appreciate the support of Butch DeLaHunt, Duraclutch, and Arrowhead groomers for helping navigate things and get us the equipment needed to even be able to get the approval for the event.

Trappers Landing and Lakes Area PowerSports are working hard on the logistics so please help everyone by not being the issue

Registration closes Wednesday at 6pm so get signed up right away!

Thank you,

Todd
